How can HR eradicate serial staff ‘sickies’?

HR plays a vital role in ensuring team members are healthy, energised and engaged. Unfortunately, lots of staff take leave that isn’t genuine. The result of staff faking ‘sickies’ could lead to lost momentum of critical initiatives, project budget and time blow outs, turnover of high performing team members, and company brand damage. It is believed that faking ‘sickies’ and absenteeism has a direct correlation to the culture of the workplace. Organisations need to focus on overcoming absenteeism by creating a cultural environment that inspires people to want to give their best. HR need to: engage leaders, make the health and well-being of your people a strategic priority, reserve judgement, make it safe to be honest, be pragmatic, call out sickies, leave no room for doubt and hold people accountable.
